How to re-install the Borland Database Engine

Cause

  • Timeslips will not start
  • Installation fails

Resolution

Remove BDE

  1. Open Windows Explorer and locate the following folders:
    Note: If the folder does not exist, move on to the next in the list. Some folders are from older versions of Borland
    • Delete the LDAPI folder  C:\Idapi
    • Delete the Borland folder  C:\Program Files\Borland and, if present C:\Program Files (x86)\Borland
    • Delete the Borland Shared folder  C:\Program Files\Common Files\Borland Shared and, if present C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\ Borland Shared
  2. Remove other versions of BDE
    1. Click Start, Find, Files or Folders
    2. Under Named type, LDAPI*
    3. Search the local drives
  3. Remove any LDAPI folders found. (Commonly under Corel/Shared/ if using Wordperfect) 
    Note: If you cannot remove all Borland files because they are in use, remove all files possible & any registry keys. Restart the workstation and delete the rest of the files.
     

Remove BDE Registry Keys

  1. Backup the Registry
  2. Click Start, Run
  3. Type in REGEDIT and press Enter
  4. Make a backup of the registry
  5. Click HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software
  6. Delete Borland
  7. Click HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software
  8. Delete Borland
    Note: If a 64-bit Operating System, the location in the registry will be HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Wow6432Node
  9. Close the registry editor

Reinstall BDE

  1. Browse to the installation folder for Timeslips
  2. Open the LOCLINST folder
  3. Open the BDE32 folder
  4. Run Setup.EXE

-OR-

  1. Place the Timeslips CD in the CD-ROM drive
  2. Exit the Timeslips installer
  3. Click on Start, Run, Browse
  4. Locate the CD-ROM drive
  5. Open the Timeslip folder
  6. Open the BDE32 folder
  7. Double-Click on Setup.exe
  8. Click OK to run the install

Alternatively, download the BDE32.ZIP file at the bottom of this article, unzip and execute the Setup.EXE file in order to reinstall the Borland engine.
